EARTHQUAKE DRILL

EARTHQUAKE DRILL

NARRATIVE REPORT

An earthquake drill is a drill used to practice in preparation for an earthquake. School Safety Preparedness Drill is an annual earthquake preparedness drill being organized in schools. A large earthquake could be unprecedented catastrophe. With earthquake as an inevitable part of our future, schools must make plans and take actions to reduce the consequences of these disaster. What we do now will determine what our lives will be like afterwards. With this in mind Bolaoen Elementary School joins the whole country from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in simultaneous earthquake drill in all schools.

This June 22, 2019 after the flag ceremony, a short talk about disaster awareness and preparedness was conducted by Mrs. Myrna O. Fernandez , Teacher III.  She discussed about the different kinds of disasters that would possibly hit our country any time and its consequences. She also emphasized the importance of being prepared and aware for this unwanted event to reduce its negative effects in our lives. Guidelines were given in case these emergencies occur. In case of floods and typhoons it is advised for the people living in catch basin areas to evacuate immediately to designated evacuation center. For earthquake preparedness a school plan was designed to keep everyone safe.

The school earthquake drill started after the short talk. Each pupils were advised to drop, cover and hold as they hear the bell rings once as a sign of earthquake and hide under their tables. On the second ring of the bell every body must go out the classroom calmly and slowly one by one to avoid accident and proceed to an open area away from falling objects where everybody could be safe.

Earthquake drills and exercises are an extremely important part of our preparedness plan because they teach students, staff and parents how to respond to complications of actual earthquake and help evaluate how well all parts of emergency plan work together and how well staff and students have been trained.
